The purpose of the Teen Volunteer program is to promote volunteering and provide an educational experience within the healthcare field.

Limited membership
The Teen Volunteer Program is limited to approximately 40 participants each year.

Eligibility
Each Teen Volunteer must:

• Be 15 to 18 years of age.
• Send in completed application before the February 1st deadline.
• 2 letters of reference (e.g., counselors, teachers, employees).
• Demonstrate a mature and professional image and have good communication and follow-through skills..
• Friendly outgoing personality.
• Copy of school transcript.
• Achieve a “B” average or above in school.  Must be in good standing in school and the community.
• Be willing to commit to volunteering 6 weeks of the 8 week summer break..
• Must not have another job obligation which will interfere with your commitment as a Teen Volunteer.
• Attend an Orientation each year of participation.
• Complete a Physical each year of participation (Annual Physicals for volunteers are given free of charge by our Occupational Health Department.) Must have up-to-date immunization record.
• Turn in all required forms with appropriate signatures and pay $5.00 annual dues by date designated.

Mandatory Orientation
Each Teen Volunteer must attend an Orientation Meeting each year of participation.  Orientations are usually scheduled in June.

Annual Physicals
Teen Volunteers must complete their annual physical before they  can begin volunteering in the hospital. 

Scheduling
Scheduling will be addressed in orientation.

Selection Process

• Applications are mailed out to students upon request.
  The deadline for returning the application is February 1.
• Henry Medical Center Volunteer Services Department determines how many vacancies there are in the program each year.
• Applicants will be asked to complete a written interview that will help determine whether he/she meets the criteria for becoming a Teen Volunteer.
• Applicants will be notified by mail whether he/she has been selected for participation in the Teen Volunteer program.  Letters are usually mailed in April.

Special Projects
Teen Volunteers may have the opportunity to work on special projects that come up during the year such as

• Newsletter
• Teen Scrapbook

Awards
Each teen that successfully completes the program will receive a certificate.

Additional awards may also be presented by the Henry Medical Center Auxiliary

• Teen Volunteer of the Year
• Scholarship Award (must be in the program 2 years and participate in the youth conference held in July)
• Shining Star Award (new teen volunteers)
