Surgical Services
At Henry Medical Center we provide a broad range of outpatient and inpatient surgeries. Our highly-qualified surgeons perform many of these sophisticated surgical procedures utilizing today’s newest evolving technology.
Henry Medical Center has its own Ambulatory (one-day) Surgery Center on site for those procedures not requiring an extended stay. More than 80% of all surgeries performed at HMC are outpatient surgeries.
Below are answers to some frequently asked questions concerning surgery:
What happens in pre-op?
A registered nurse will perform an assessment. The nurse will ask you about your medical history and conduct a physical. You will change clothes and prepare for surgery. There may be blood work or x-rays taken according to your physician’s orders. A board-certified anesthesiologist will discuss your anesthetic options with you. Your family is welcome to wait with you until it is time to go back for surgery.
What can I do with my belongings?
Your family may take your belongings or you may leave them in a secure location within the HMC surgical unit.
Do I have to have an IV?
Generally yes, if your physician has ordered it.
What happens when it’s time for surgery?
You will be taken to the operating room by a registered nurse. Your care in the operating room will be provided by a team of qualified individuals. Your family will wait in the outpatient waiting room.
What happens after surgery?
Depending on the type of anesthetic you receive, most patients are taken to the post anesthesia care unit for recovery care by a registered nurse. Once you are stable you will be taken back to the Ambulatory Care Unit where your family can wait with you until you are discharged.
