The North Tower Expansion will allow the hospital to grow to 215 beds from its current 124 beds and will house a new, comprehensive Women and Children’s Center including labor and delivery, a well baby nursery, neonatal intensive care services, as well as general wellness and diagnostics to provide a continuum of care for women - all in one place.
A focal point of the North Tower expansion will be the Cardiovascular Services. Cardiology care is currently provided in various areas throughout the hospital. The creation of the Heart Center will allow these services to be grouped together, allowing for easier transitions between care, analysis, procedure and recovery. Additionally, HMC’s Critical Care Unit will be expanded to meet the growing demands for care.
The new facility will also include an enhanced Outpatient Diagnostic Services Center and existing space will be renovated and redesigned in the current hospital building.

North Tower Expansion
Fact Sheet

-
The $60 million expansion project began with a groundbreaking in May 2004 and will take approximately 28 months to complete.
-
The expansion will include construction of a five-story, 202,000-square-foot tower containing beds for general medical-surgical care, intensive care, postpartum care, and neonatal intensive care and cardiology services.
-
As part of the expansion, an additional 91 patient beds will be added bringing total bed capacity to 215.

-
The new construction will substantially change the look of Henry Medical Center. The new structure will face Hospital Drive as the campus is entered from Rock Quarry Road and provide a new, dedicated entrance for hospital services.
-
Henry County's population has grown 445 percent since the hospital opened in 1979.
-
Newborn deliveries average five a day, and that figure is expected to double by 2007.
-
Outpatient services will be consolidated making it easier for patients to access services.
