If you take a moment, you can probably think of someone you know who has used blood or will need a transfusion due to upcoming surgery. Statistics show that one out of every three people will need a blood transfusion during their lifetime.

Cancer patients, trauma victims, premature infants, sickle cell patients, and people who are undergoing surgery are just some of the people who need blood transfusions to survive. The primary goal of LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is to provide the highest quality blood components and services at the lowest optimum cost to Henry Medical Center and other Hospitals they supply.

In order to maintain a safe and adequate blood supply for the community, Lifesouth soley relies on volunteer blood donors. Although 60% of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood, typically only five percent actually do. The Ultimate goal is for every healthy person to become a blood donor. It is vital to patients at Henry Medical Center and to every member of this community that blood is available when it is needed.

Giving blood isn't hard, it just takes a little time – about 30 minutes. The actual donation only takes five to seven minutes and the donor qualifications are simple. Blood donors must be 17 years or older, weigh at least
110 pounds and be in good health. If you are healthy and meet the eligibility requirements, please give the gift of life. From donation to transfusion, many hands take part in the lives saved by blood donors and thereby touch the very heart of our community.
