Henry Medical Center is committed to the health and wellness of adults. Community Educators are available to provide group programs, either at Henry Medical Center or at other community locations upon request. Speakers are carefully chosen based on their area of expertise. Programs may be free or fee-based. Programs are offered throughout the year, call

Arthritis Self-Help (AF): Six 2-hour sessions are offered over a 6 week period to promote self-management of arthritis for patients and families. For more information, visit The Arthritis Foundation

Fresh Start (Smoking Cessation/ACS): Four 1-hour sessions are offered over a 4 week period to tobacco users who want to quit and stay quit. For more information on the Fresh Start Program, visit the American Cancer Society.

Diabetes Self-Management: This program is nationally recognized by the American Diabetes Association. Participants learn about diabetes, management of medications, nutrition, exercise, and much more. Classes are conducted regularly on the hospital campus, and are taught by Certified Diabetes Educators.

Let's Get Acquainted is a free 1-hour program offered on the first Tuesday of each month for expectant parents-to-be. Tour the Marcia G. Taylor Women's Center, and learn about what to expect when arriving for the birth of your baby.

Prepared Childbirth Class is offered throughout the year at Henry Medical Center. This 4-week program includes the stages of labor and delivery, medications, natural childbirth, and information about the new baby and breastfeeding, and is taught by a registered nurse with CCE certification (Certified Childbirth Educator). During the program, participants also enjoy a tour of the hospital including the Marcia G. Taylor Women's Center. This program is also offered on one Saturday per quarter. There is fee for this class.

The Best Start - Breastfeeding Your Baby program provides information about the emotional and health advantages of breastfeeding your baby, how to breastfeed, as well as the collection and storage of breast milk. Offered once a month. There is a fee for this class.

Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program : Two 1-hour sessions over 8 weeks offer an arthritis exercise class to increase strength, range of motion, and flexibility. This Arthritis Foundation program shares activities that increase joint flexibility and muscle strength. For more information on arthritis, visit The Arthritis Foundation.

Planning For Your Final Healthcare: Learn how you and your family can discuss and plan in advance for health care at the end of life. For more information call (678) 604-1054 or (678) 604-1038.

Get Moving Again: For hip or knee surgery patients. Meets the last Saturday, monthly.

Look Good Feel Better: This program is designed to help women undergoing cancer treatment to regain self-confidence and control over their lives. Meets monthly from 10 A.M. to Noon in the Foundation Education Center. For more information and registration, call (770) 460-8920. For cancer information, visit The American Cancer Society.

Safe Home Exercise: A Physical Therapist can personalize a program for stretching, weight training, and cardiovascular exercises. Call (678) 604-1028 for an appointment. Must present a prescription for an exercise
program.

CPR and First Aid: Classes are scheduled throughout the year. Each CPR class includes training on the signs and symptoms of heart attack, stroke, choking, and how to respond to medical emergencies. Classes offered alternate each quarter between CPR only and CPR with First Aid. First Aid classes cover the basics of first aid for burns, bleeding, sprains, and more.

Cancer Resources: Contact information for local education, support, and other resources. Henry Medical Center's cancer program has been awarded a certificate of approval by the Commission on Cancer. To achieve program goals, Henry Medical Center collaborates with the American Cancer Society and other appropriate organizations to provide patients, staff, and community members with information on cancer education programs, support resources, and clinical trials.
